Laurel Thomas

Where will your leap into storytelling take you?

Take that brilliant idea and jump into the unknown. It might just change your world!

A former high school English teacher, Laurel Thomas loves words and their power to convey remarkable stories. She’s written for inspirational magazines including Guideposts and Mysterious Ways, as well as ghosted nonfiction. Her novel River’s Call was published by Wild Rose Press and boasts five-star reviews on Amazon!

When she’s not with family, or roaming the halls of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as chaplain, she’s on her laptop doing what she loves most – crafting stories of ordinary characters rising up against impossible odds to accomplish the extraordinary.

In her position as general administrator for Write Well, Sell Well and WriterCon2020 in Oklahoma City, she teaches and supports other multi-published industry professionals who equip writers for success through national conferences and weekend intensives.

Looking for a Speaker?

I’d be honored to speak at your venue! Here are some topics I’ve recently shared. Of course, if you have a topic you desire for your event, please let me know. Contact me here!

Previous speaking venues have included WriterCon, Red Sneaker Writers/Write Well Sell Well Conference, OKC Christian Fiction Writers, and Oklahoma City Writers.

 Frequently requested topics include:

The Power of Vivid Imagery and Interactive Image Building
Learn how to build a palette of images that capture a picture and invite a reader inside your story or manuscript! This class includes interactive image building using unexpected parallels, specific detail to convey universal emotions and strong sensory elements.

Storytelling: Queen of the Literary Universe
Learn how to use effective storytelling to make your fiction and nonfiction sing. It’s all how words convey our stories with clarity and beauty. Fictional techniques pull a reader into your manuscript and imprint the message on their hearts.

Inserting Soul in Fiction
A believable character arc brings “soul” to our stories. Without it, plot-lines are play-by-play accounts. With it, the reader sees how a lie the protagonist believes to be true becomes an unseen cord that continues to trip him up. Relationships, even with an antagonist, force a confrontation and result in growth.

Don’t Stress the Mess!
Creativity can be messy. Don’t get lost in the midst of all those right-brain imaginings! Learn practical ways to tame fly-away thoughts and bring them together into a completed masterpiece. This session includes interactive exercises that help you move in that direction!

I would love to be a guide for your writer’s journey.
